Narsapur Forest
This forest is about 30 KM from Balanagar junction on Nizamabad/Bodhan highway.  This is a very small forest, stretching for 4-5 KM on the highway.  But is has everything, well almost, a mini-ghat section, thick forest, a hill some 4 KM inside the forest, a large lake, a good number of birds, and a lot of monkeys. This makes an ideal spot for trekking for 4-5 hours on a Saturday or Sunday.

Ananthagiri Hills
Located 75 KM from Hyderabad, just after Vikarabad, this mini hill range shrouded by thick woods is another trekking spot that can be motored down to at 100-120 KM speed. The road via chevella upto Vikarabad is flanked by beautiful grasslands and sunflower farms. Apart from “Anantha Padmanabha Swamy temple” there is not much to Ananthagiri other than trekking down the hills.  APTDC is planning to build a resort here very soon.
Moving our attention to the other places in Andhra Pradesh, I feel we have quite a good number of quality trekking spots.

Mallela Theertham –This waterfall is in the middle of dense forest. 40 KM before Srisailam, we need to take a diversion from Srisailam-Hyderabad highway and travel for 8 KM on a bumpy muddy road which is unmotorable during the rainy season. One has to walk down 350 steps to the stunning waterfalls amidst dense jungle. The water comes from a small rivulet and via this place it flows through the dense jungle and then meeting the Krishna River upstream.

Horsely Hills

It’s a good idea to club the Talakona trek with a visit to Horsely Hills which is 20 KM from Madanpalle in Chittoor district.
521 km and takes approx 7 hrs, 30 mins by road.

Horsely Hills has a variety of options for accommodation, incl. the forest bungalow, the P W D inspection bungalow and APTDC’s Punnami hotel. The narrow road to Horsely Hills from Madanapalle is very scenic. It is surrounded throughout its entire length with dense growths of eucalyptus, jacaranda, allamanda, and gulmohar trees. The major tourist places around Horsely hills are Lake Gangotri, Highview seeing place, Gaalibanda, Environmental park and Horsley hills Museum. This may sound a lot, but the fact is that Horsely Hills is a small, sleepy hill station where you can relax for a couple of days for dozing off in an armchair, or by taking short walks around the place, or shedding some calries in the swimming pool in the hotel.

Ethipothala Waterfalls
Are you tired of vacationing in the same old conventional destinations in Andhra Pradesh? Are you looking forward for a suitable place to holiday to within Hyderabad? In that case retreat amidst nature to a scenic destination like Ethipothala waterfall. Visit the cascading Ethipothala waterfall, which is set about 11 Kms. from the Nagarjunasagar. The water gushes down from Chandravanka Mountains, which lies at an elevation of about 70 feet, which is worth appreciating. Get ensnared by the radiant beauty of local attraction close to the Ethipothala waterfall. Enjoy a wonderful picnic along with your closed ones at the local picnic spot that is positioned close to the attractive valley. The stream flowing from Chandravankas Hill merges into a local lagoon. The river Chandra Vanka mounts along the Muthukuru along the eastern side of the Nallamala hills. Chandra Vanka stream cascades from a greater height and unites with the Tumurukota reserve forest, from where it derives its name Ethipothala Waterfalls which ultimately combines with the Krishna River.

chilpi, will mallelatirtham have much water now? and does it have any accomodation options? thanks.

The only public transport (APSRTC bus) leaves Achampet at 7:30 AM in the morning and the return bus is at 16:30 hrs from Mallelatirtham. There are no hotels and you must take your own packed food as well. This is a remote place.
If you are reaching Srisailam from Hyderabad, you need to take a left turn at Vatavarlapally.

Excursions From Hyderabad >

Belum Caves

Located about 320 Kms from Hyderabad, these caves present a breathtaking view to the visitor.

They are over 3 Kms in length. But, for tourists, only till about 2 km are accessible.
What will catch your attention is the awe-inspiring stalactite and stalagmite formations that are there throughout the caves.
There is a spacious chamber, fresh water galleries and siphons.

Nalgonda
Nalgonda is a typically rural Andhra district. It has a great number of villages. The region, formerly known as Neelgari, or the ‘blue mountains,’ is replete with tourist attractions. Nalgonda features tourist attractions in the form of popular religious and heritage sites. The popular religious sites in Nalgonda include Matampalli, Wadapally, Yadagirigutta, Kolanupaka, Pangal, Sunkishala, Gajulabanda, Yeleswaram, Phanigiri, and several more.
The Sunkishala and Somalingeswaraswamy temples are notable sites, sacred to Hindus. There is a fascinating architectural feat associated with the latter: the temple has a number of pillars, one of which always casts a shadow on the shrine placed here. What is mysterious is, it has not been identified which pillar casts the shadow till date!
Another interesting place is the Ethipothala waterfalls. The fall starts from a height of 21 metres and fills the space with myriads of colour. The Ikshvaku citadel found at Nandikonda is a surprise for many. The site has a fortified wall, gates and army barracks of the glorious past.
Nalgonda city is bounded by two hills - Kapurala Gutta and Lateef Shahi Gutta, and it was earlier known as Neelgari meaning blue mountains

AnathaGiri Forest Hyderabad
The precincts of the City of Hyderabad has always been a place of excitement because of the lovely, rich forests housed in it. Green foliage dappled with exotically colorful fauna is what makes the Anathagiri forest , a lovely place to be. Seventy kilometers away from the heart of the man city, Anatha giri Forest is located in Vikarabad.
Tourists visiting Hyderabad invariably comes to watch these mysterious woods which are supposed to be one of the most beautiful jungles of South India. Roaming in the forest area is one of the most favorite activities of the Tourists at Anathagiri forests.
If you are a person who wants to spend some reclusive days in the lap of unscathed nature then Anathagiri should be your pick as this is a destination which is not much explored till date.
The Anathagiri Hills situated amidst the dark forest is the key reason for making this place a special hit with the tourists. Tracking is the best possible activity done in the Anathagiri forests. The Anathagiri Hills is the place from which the river Musi is said to originate but when you reach the spot its very difficult to find even a stream of water.
The experience of wandering about in the Anathagiri forests is adventurous as well as thrilling. Some fantastic birds, weird insects and a few old trees is what you can see there. But you will like it because the beauty of nature is pristine, impeccable and unspoilt.
A lake nearby is nothing awesome but very natural and the cool breeze blowing along the banks are refreshing as well as soothing. The forest also houses a simple yet charismatic temple of Lord Ananta Padmanabha, which was constructed by a Muslim King , several centuries ago.
If your companions are brave and like to spend a few days trying out something different,
then Anathagiri Forests of Hyderabad is the destination which will satiate your desire.

Chincholi Forest near gulbarga - karantaka is about 140 kms from Hyderabad and has lot of hills and boulders for trekking and overnight camping. Chandrapalli is the village which is 5km away from Chicholi. This village is surrounded by beautiful valleys, Just 0.5km away from this Village the DAM is constructed which is very beautiful and located between the two hills. The forest area is also host to many medicinal plants and wildlife.

Narsapur Forest – till a few days back, I had never even heard of this place; it was only because of the Office Travelerz Club that I came to know about this place. Sridhar, as is the norm, was the starting point of the planning and soon five of us – Sridhar, LSP, Raghu, Kosstubh, and me – were ready to trek through these unchartered forests. Google was of no help this time, as there is hardly anything about Narsapur Forest on the web even though it is just 30kms from Hyderabad. Tried to judge the lay of the forest as best as we could with the help of Wikimapia, and we were off.
